TestimonialsFor this new series, journalist and director Stefania Rousselle sets off on the roads of France, with a simple question: “How are you? This week, Fabrice Pielach, 50, hairdresser in Boulogne-sur-Mer, in Pas-de-Calais.
“Me, when I was little, it was always a party at home. There were thirty, fifty guests every Saturday night at my parents’ house. They danced until 5 or 6 in the morning. My mother, she liked to make big tables. She took cooks and waiters in bow ties. And on Monday, she received her clients in her hair salon in Gosnay, just next to Béthune. She welcomed important people, the director of 3 Suisses and doctors, and in the evening, my father, he cooked for all the customers who stayed in the living room, while she put down their color. I lacked nothing. I was even a spoiled child. But in fact, my mother, I never saw her. I don’t remember a single dinner where I was alone with her. I had a nanny whom I called Maman. I was boarded four kilometers from my home. I still remember my mother telling us: “Come on, we’re going on holiday to the sea. We’re going to the Sainte-Cécile apartment!” » and then who, after three days, wants to go home, because she misses her clients. And me ? It’s things that mark. We’re a tight-knit family, but it’s true that I never talked to him about it.
The worst part is that today I’m doing the exact same thing. I’ve been in hairdressing for thirty-four years. My children are sacred, but I don’t see them. It’s always the job. I have a 27-year-old, Antoine, he is a policeman. He doesn’t tell me now, but when he was little, he blamed me for not being there. My other son, Raphaël, he is 9 years old, it’s the same. I only see him every two weeks. He lives with his mother, and we meet with my parents on Saturday evenings in Béthune. I arrive around 9 p.m., and I drop him off at school on Monday. Except that, at the moment, it’s winter, it’s dark, the road to Saint-Omer is dangerous, so I only go there on Sundays. It’s a failure for me. Because a child should not have divorced parents. I, his mother, wanted to stay with him.
“I never take vacations. I had to go abroad maybe three times”
But I was never there. I was in the living room. I would even say at trade fairs. Because I had several at one time. I even had several lives as a hairdresser. I styled Miss France for seven years. When I was at Dessange, we were styling 250 clients a day. At that time, I did a lot of bodybuilding, I did 3 hours of sports a day, I was always tanned, I did 50 UV per year, I was always on my 31. I worked in fatigues and rangers. The clients, they stood to attention when they entered the salon. I always looked fabulous. Afterwards, I was young, I didn’t have a small bun like now. On the other hand, in my living room, I always spend as much time there. I have a business to run, and the Covid hasn’t helped. So, no, I never take vacations. I had to go abroad maybe three times. Once in Cape Verde, twice in Egypt. Every time in 5 stars all-inclusive. In the evening, I went to see the shows. And the day was beach or swimming pool, deckchair and nothing to do. Because I’m not the style to visit, I’m not interested.
