the amount of pledges reached 4 million euros, slightly down on last year

At the end of its long annual fundraising weekend, Sunday evening March 27, the Sidaction association received 4 million euros in pledges for the fight against AIDS. This amount is slightly lower than that of 2021, when the association had collected almost 4.5 million euros in pledges, close to the record of 4.5 million euros set in 2019 (the 2020 edition had been canceled due to the health crisis).

“The donors were there despite the very busy news, they have already shown great mobilization and generosity vis-à-vis Ukraine”made a point of observing, with Agence France-Presse (AFP), the general manager of Sidaction, Florence Thune.

This year, the event was launched on Thursday evening with the broadcast of a clip on the 33 partner media. A special musical program was broadcast on Saturday evening on France 2.

Risk of renewed HIV epidemic

At present, the Sidaction association estimates that the risk of a resumption of the HIV epidemic is “alarming”, in particular due to a “drop in screenings” due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “This drop in screening means that more people do not know their HIV status, which means that we are at greater risk of contamination”says M.me Money.

Furthermore, the war in Ukraine could contribute to a subsequent resurgence of the HIV epidemic in the region. “Ukraine is one of the most affected countries in Eastern Europe. He had made a lot of effort in recent years, but we know how devastated the health system will be” by the war, explains Florence Thune.
