They all have in mind these terrible images, broadcast on television and on social networks, of the beating of their colleague, a security guard at the Quatre Temps shopping center in La Défense, Wednesday March 23: “Risk it for a minimum wage? » Behind “Angry security, increase salaries” banners, several hundred safety and security officers demonstrated on Friday 1er April, in inter-union, between the terminals of Roissy-Charles-de-Gaulle airport. In the snow, and at -2°C: “poor conditions to demonstrate, but it’s like our working conditions”, ironically Takfarinas, fire safety officer in a shopping center in Rouen (Seine-Maritime). At 35, his salary is 1,641 euros gross per month (excluding bonuses). Just above the minimum wage (1,603 euros), but not for long.
Thursday, March 31, the Ministry of Labor indicated that the latter could increase to 1er May from 2.4% to 2.6%, a mechanical increase expected in the event of high inflation. Security guards at the same level as Takfarinas on the grid (coefficient 140) – and there were many of them on Friday – would then find themselves at minimum wage, since it rises while their salaries stagnate. “When you’ve been working for ten years, it’s downright humiliating! » indignant Takfarinas.
The effect of the 2.2% revaluation recorded in September 2021 by a branch agreement was erased in a few months by successive increases in the minimum wage, on 1er October (2.2%) then on 1er January 2022 (0.9%). In mid-March, the unions rejected the 1% proposed by the employers as a catch-up.
“We are running after these increases in the minimum wage”, concedes Cédric Paulin, secretary general of the Groupement des entreprises de sécurité, which represents 200 companies in branch negotiations. “But increasing salaries during the year with customers is impossible. Contracts cannot be changed. And our companies, which make only 0.5% to 2% margin, could not, alone, support the increases. »
For Djamel Benotmane, CGT delegate at Fiducial Private Security, the problem lies upstream, in the tariffs granted to win calls for tenders: “The less scrupulous companies offer very low prices and the principals find their interest there, which contributes to the decline of the sector. »
While waiting for the next negotiation, in May, agents are seeing their purchasing power melt away. Mohamed, 41, security operator at Roissy, lives in Oise: “ 47 km morning and evening, with my diesel. Coming to work now costs me 300 euros per month! »
