Slight improvement on the weather front, marked by an unusual episode of cold at the start of spring. Ten departments, against twenty-two on Friday, were placed on orange alert by Météo-France, Saturday April 2, due to the risk of snow and ice on the roads.
Ain, Allier, Cantal, the two departments of Corsica, Isère, Loire and Haute-Loire, Puy-de-Dôme and Savoie are kept on alert until Sunday morning, while that Ariège, Aveyron, Corrèze, Creuse, Haute-Garonne, Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Hautes-Pyrénées, Tarn and Haute-Vienne are no longer affected by the episode.
In its latest forecast bulletin, Météo-France notes a general trend towards lessening of snowfall, which has reached 50 centimeters on the alpine reliefs.
Road traffic, already disrupted Friday in many departments, was still on Saturday on certain axes of the Center and the East, in particular. The weather conditions also caused the postponement to Sunday of the Ligue 1 football match between Saint-Etienne and Marseille, scheduled for Saturday evening.
Falling temperatures also threaten vines and fruit trees. In the Loire Valley or the Rhone Valley, winegrowers and arboriculturists fear frost for the next two nights.
