Request from elected officials

Last week, in the middle of Gérald Darmanin’s trip to Corsica, the autonomist president of the island’s executive council, Gilles Simeoni, pleaded for a rapprochement ” in the coming days “ by Pierre Alessandri and Alain Ferrandi. “It is imperative in my opinion that these two convicts are in Borgo not only in the summer but in the days to come”he had insisted, asking to “disconnect this application from the law of the current situation” tension in Corsica.

The Minister of the Interior, on site to try to calm a tense situation after two weeks of anger, even riots, had received the relatives and lawyers of the two detainees. The Minister had conditioned this decision to reconcile to a return to calm on the island. “It cannot be the street that commands”, he insisted. The situation has since calmed down.

Pierre Alessandri and Alain Ferrandi, arrested in 1999, were sentenced in 2003 to life imprisonment for their participation in the assassination of the prefect Claude Erignac, on February 6, 1998, in Ajaccio. They are serving their sentence at the central house in Poissy, in the Yvelines department. Yvan Colonna, the third member of the “Erignac commando”, also sentenced to life imprisonment, was for his part detained at the central house of Arles, in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

In December, about fifteen parliamentarians from several political groups had signed a platform in The world to ask that these three prisoners be able to serve the rest of their sentence in a Corsican prison. Some of them then went to Poissy and Arles at the end of January to meet these detainees and support their request for reconciliation.
