Being able to combine work and family is one of the pending subjects in our country. Society, it seems, still continues to manage enormous challenges to be able to carry it out. Nevertheless, the Government has gone a step further and has put a thread on the needle to try to improve the situation of many families.

The 'Council Plan' has already been launched for some workers

When we talk about conciliation, we refer to a concept that has balance as its central core. For this to make sense, this concept must be spread between a person's personal and professional life. The aim of conciliation is to improve the happiness of workers, so that they can be more productive and effective in their jobs.

However, Spain is one of the countries of the European union who is handling this issue worse. In addition, we must not forget that this can lead to enormous damages. For this reason, and with the aim of facilitating these issues, since September 1st, the long-awaited 'Conciliar Plan' has finally been implemented.

This new measure, promoted by the Government, establishes that all civil servants of the General Administration of the State can take advantage of the measures provided for in this plan.

This means more flexibility in terms of schedules and permits. With regard to the working day, all civilian personnel in the service of the Administration will experience new modifications.

In this way, one of the most noteworthy points of the new plan is that the working day cannot be extended beyond 6:00 p.m. Therefore, the workers will have to concentrate all day before this time.

The consequences of this type of schedule

On the other hand, regarding the entrances and exits of the workplace, the employees of the General Administration of the State will have the option of making some changes.

So, they will be able to decide the time of entry, which would range from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m., as well as the time of departure, which would be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. hours. This only refers to the day that takes place from Monday to Thursday, since on Fridays the schedule is different, ending at 2:30 or 3:30 p.m.

These new measures facilitate the conciliation of workers. Thanks to them, it is possible to make up to a third of the schedule flexible, always respecting the fixed attendance zone, obviously.

In addition to this, the plan also includes other measures that advocate reconciliation, such as the new ten-day paternity leave or the extension of maternity leave by another four weeks.

However, in order to carry out these measures, some departments have chosen to disseminate a series of recommendations that would help facilitate their compliance. Some are reducing the lunch break or avoiding calling meetings that could extend beyond 6:00 p.m., for example.

The obstacles that still remain to be overcome

The benefits of conciliation for the worker are many. In addition to considerably improving productivity, it also manages to increase the quality of life. On the other hand, it also helps to promote equality between men and women and, of course, contributes to the development of family responsibilities.

As far as companies are concerned, they would also gain advantages in its application, thus reducing absenteeism and improving the climate in the workplace. Currently, in our country, 8 out of 10 workers say they have problems balancing work and family. Obviously, these situations continue to be present in many homes.

The measures we mentioned earlier are included in a plan that, for the time being, is being carried out within the General Administration of the State. However, there is still a way to go. Conciliation is a pending task, which sooner or later will end up being necessary for all workers.
